The ingredients used are: A head and a half of Red Cabbage, 1/2 a head of Green Cabbage, 1 cup of Celery, 1/2 cup or so of Red Onion, a whole cup or more of Cilantro, 4 teaspoons or more of Sea Vegetables, 1/4 to 1/2 cup of Fresh Ginger, 2 tablespoons or so of Celery Seeds, 3 tablespoons of Fennel Seeds and 2 tablespoons of Turmeric *use fresh if you have some* I used them in a powdered form. And 3 to 4 tablespoons or so Sea Salt! Do not use iodine as it inhibits the fermentation process!
Do you have any dried herbs left from last summer’s harvest? I know I have both dried calendula and comfrey that needs used up so these DIY’s are perfect for me! (I just need to get the olive oil and almond oil) And if they don’t pertain to you right now, just watch for future knowledge or scram creep! haha, it’s always fun to tell someone to beat it
First the oil infusing….
Then, make some salve with that herbal oil – all you need to score is some beeswax!! You can always go the extra measure to add shea butter, cocoa butter or coconut oil to formula. Try to remember 1 ounce beeswax to 1 cup liquid oil. The soft butters and solid oils shouldn’t effect that ratio much at all.
What essential oils would you like to add – either for the smell factor or for medicinal qualities?
I’m not even sure HOW I haven’t done this one yet!! All this personal hooking I’ve done this week, making a circular rug for our living room, has gotten many people interested in the craft and wondering what exactly is required.
The first thing, is that there are countless ways to doing them – that’s for sure! It’s best to become inspired and then dive right in and screw one up as quick as you can. BEST way to learn!!
Here’s a musical video that can get you started, at least entertaining the idea of making one yourself -
^and just a lil’ for your info ~ I’ve made some using that stitch above with success, but I really LOVE the look of just using a chain stitch the whole way through…
Working diligently here & hoping my next blog post is me cooing how done done DONE I am with making my rug!!
