Green Your… [fill in the blank]

What pops into your head? I typed in soap.

Green Your

You can be way more adventurous than me and type in anything! Cars, toothpaste, batteries, beer, cleaning, gardening, feminine hygiene, condoms… You can learn how to green everything!

Green Your….. [then fill in the blank my friend]

I spotted this fun website over at the geeky good green space at who of course, gave a solid and thorough review including an invitation to all the Green Your [blank] Smarty Pants to participate and share their Eco-knowledge and contribute to the website. Very cool.

If this Eco-geeky girl didn’t have so many time restraints and commitment issues, I would definitely participate.  But until I clear those up, I think I’ll go type in soap again.

Green Taxes Can Make You Smile

Hey Friend!

Spring is here – Hooray!

Warm weather puts me in such a good mood. This morning when I awoke to some black bear vandalism on the back porch, I didn’t even mind that the furry little f’er knocked over the gardening shelf, upset the compost and completely busted the new bird feeder. I just felt happy that the bear had fun and smiled as I cleaned up the mess. Then, since I was on such a jolly roll, I went over to my lazy neighbors and picked up all the litter in their yard, as it truly is my favorite springtime thing to do.

What’s your least favorite thing to do in the spring?

I bet it has something to do with the IRS. Yes, filing those taxes is a drag, even with the sun shining. Our new Naturally Us Comic offers a great suggestion how the IRS can become more green.
Check out the Damn Taxes comic…

A monthly reward for the Top Commentator is also new at the All Natural Me Blog. Each month, we are sending out a goodie bag to the lucky person with the most comments. Yeah, it’s nothing but dirty bribery for you to visit us more often, but you have to admit, it’s pretty fun.

Get the Antioxidants, Lose the Crap

We just got some really great spam in the Natural Me Myspace Group about antioxidants. It was from a jii jiii juice pusher and it’s amazing how much you can learn from a spammer if you take the time to listen in between the sales pitch.

For real, it was like high school science class except with a financial motive but, what a great review.

Let me copy & paste all these wonderful nerdy words to know:

An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves.

Antioxidants are found in many natural foods – from berries to broccoli, and even coffee and chocolate! They offer super protection for the body against all types of diseases and problems – especially those caused by free radicals.

Free radicals are molecules which have separated in awkward manners, leaving an free unpaired electron floating around (free radicals). These “free radicals” are unstable, and they can react with other compounds, trying to get back their lost electron. This can cause unhealthy issues with everyday metabolic task.

Free radicals tend to attack the nearest stable molecule in an attempt to take an electron from it. This causes that molecule to become a free radical, which will then attack other molecules. This process would be left to grow exponentially if it were not for something to neutralize the process.

Eventually, this can lead to conditions such as cancer. Antioxidants help protect against damage from free radicals.

Antioxidants can actually give one of their electrons to a free radical, ending the cycle of reaction! The great thing about antioxidants is that they are stable, even if they lose an electron. Its a win/win situation.

So they can protect the body, without causing additional damage. There are several types of antioxidants that we know of, and there may be dozens, or even hundreds that we haven’t yet discovered.

Lycopene is a potent antioxidant that was not even discovered until the 1980s. Before then, we had no idea just how great tomatoes could actually be for us!

This is why it’s so important to eat a balanced diet. You can take vitamin supplements that contain antioxidants, but what about those that haven’t yet been discovered?

And that’s when he slipped in the sales pitch but hey, wasn’t he doing so good up until then? I was eating it up. He also gifted us with two bonus “Top 10” Lists (which I just love as I adore lists) and the second one is actually a Top 15 – whoo hooo!

Antioxidants are rated by an ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). The higher the ORAC the more successful the free radical protection.

10 Ways to Get More Antioxidants into your daily diet!

1. Eat dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Dark chocolate should be at least 75% cocoa.
2. Drink low sugar juices or tea instead of soda.
3. Add Acai berries or Acai juice to baked goods or smoothies. (go figure!)
4. Have fresh berries on your ice cream or cereal.
5. Add fresh spinach leaves to your salads.
6. Eat sprouts on your sandwiches instead of lettuce.
7. Add shredded carrots and squash to soups, stews, spaghetti sauce, and baked goods.
8. Spread roasted garlic onto whole wheat toast for an amazing snack.
9. Blend fresh fruits into delicious smoothies. Freeze the fruit before blending for a thicker, colder smoothie.
10. Use fresh and dried fruits in savory dishes. Add mango salsa to fish, pears to beef dishes, and raisins to ham.

Foods High In Antioxidants
These are some of the best antioxidant rich foods:

1. Acai Berries Highest ORAC Value
(hint hint, please buy my shit and sign up under me as a jiii jiii juice distributor)
2. Red Grapes
3. Chocolate (especially dark chocolate)
4. Black raspberries & blackberries
5. Prunes
6. Bilberry
7. Pomegranate
8. Blueberries
9. Strawberries
10. Raisins
11. Noni fruit
12. Garlic
13. Spinach
14. Carrots
15. Bell peppers

With a healthy daily intake of these antioxidant powerhouses (after you purchase the crap that I am selling), you are sure to lead a much healthier life. Enjoy!!!

Enjoy? You betcha!

Hell, after those super duper lists, I was almost ready to buy a case of the preservative enriched rain forest jiii jii berry juice.

Damn Taxes

Damn Taxes

It’s tax time and Dreg’s exhausted from pulling an all nighter getting the damn things done.

Maybe next year Dreg will go for the tax deduction and finally buy Sadie the vehicle she really wants. And maybe if Dreg is lucky, the IRS will adopt his fabulously green suggestion.

Agro-Monster Monsanto

The World According to Monsanto is an excellent documentary by Marie-Monique Robin.

Get cozy with a cup of Non-GMO Soy Chai and watch this incredibly frightening documentary on the huge agro-monster Monsanto. These earth polluting bastards produce the herbicide Round Up and also make loads of money from its transgenic seed sales. Their decevious green website does not surprise me after seeing their lack of global ethics toward the small farmers in India and South America. Don’t worry, there are not excluding the crops in the United States, as they are screwing us too. Sometimes you have to watch out for those companies with pretty websites laced with green words, Ghandi quotes and philanthropic outreach programs. Do not just swallow the bologna with a glass of rGH milk, as Monsanto is definitely a case of a wolf behind a sheep’s mask.

Tune in to learn fabulous new vocab words such as transgenic contamination, BT Genes and political Revolving Doors. Awareness will also be made of the nasty effects that Round Up chemicals have on innocent families, independent farms and food dependence. You will never look at soybeans, corn or cotton the same way ever again.

What can you do? Ummm… pray for the survival of genetic diversity? Seriously, the best step is to keep buying organic and non genetically modified products. For the green thumbs, when you are growing your gardens and food, do not purchase GM seeds from these a-holes, as they are Seeds of Suicide! Stay away from hybrid seeds and make safe purchases from small seed companies like Heirloom Seeds and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange.

And of course, the most fun All Natural Me thing to do is Spread The Word!

All Natural Me Top Commentators

We have a great new thing going on in the All Natural Me dot com Blog.

Every month, HUGE cash prizes will be awarded to the person with the most comments.

Ummm… April Fools!!

Ha ha. Well actually, I am only joking about the huge cash prizes – you know, we can give you green around here, but not that kind of green. But it’s not all a complete joke, as we do have lots of goodies lined up for the top commentator of the month.

It’s easy to participate – just comment on posts!

To be eligible, they do have to be real comments – no cheating kids! You can’t just post “Cool Beans!” on every post 10 times twice and expect us to think that is cool beans. You have to be legit. Okay? Now, if you don’t make the top, just hang around some more and try again next month. You would be here anyways even if we weren’t bribing you right? Haha. Remember, you can also post your replies to previous comments so not only can you share your thoughts about the post but also to what other people said as well. Just try to be nice please.

Speak Your Mind (a lot if you want to win goodies) and Have Fun! You can see who is leading the comments over on the right column. Just click the tab marked Top Commentators.

Thanks for your support. Now go play a trick on somebody!

Stop Junk Mail for Free

Reduce paper waste, save your time opening the junk and protect your ass from identity theft.

For free at ProQuo! It should be noted that during this eco-act of prevention, you will be asked to jump through a few hoops. Signing up is pretty quick and painless and you can even choose the option to “select all” and stop all the junk at once. BUT, yes there’s a BIG but, for some of them more action is required like printing off a form and mailing it in. Not all of them are like that but I was left with a dozen that need an extra step.

Do you think it’s worth it or not?

Of course it is. Don’t be mean, Be Green!

The no cost service also manages magazines sent to you, but here’s another strange thing, you can not only stop the companies from sending them to you (which is what I thought this website was about) but you can actually request to start receiving them!

What the hell is that all about?

Well it’s still not as strange as Earth Class Mail where you can purchase an online P.O. Box and have them open and scan your mail for you and then you read it online and never even have to touch the stuff.

If you are sick of the junk, more resources for stopping mail that you do not want can be found at Stop Junk Mail dot org.

Lights Off for Earth Hour

Get Ready to Switch Off Your Lights!!

Saturday, March 29 at 8pm is the official time for Earth Hour.

All you need to do is turn off your lights for an hour to collectively help save the world a whole butt load of energy. Yeah, think about the positive impact we could have on the climate if more people used less electricity. On that note, I should get up and turn off the hallway light.

Hooray! Save the Earth!

For at least an hour anyway… has all the background info if you are interested in hearing how this global movement started last year in Sydney, Australia as a way to inspire folks to take action on climate change.

Don’t worry if you’re city isn’t signed up for the official Earth Hour. You can still participate by yourself just by flicking off those lights. While I’m thinking of it, why not have a little “off time” every day?

When you are not using them, turn off lights, appliances and if you can handle it, even this darn computer!

Feng Shui Your Way to Good Fortune

The underlying premise of Feng Shui is that everything in your surroundings, down to the smallest detail of furnishing and decor can either further your goals in life or work against you.

By understanding the subtle currents of energy that flow through your body and through everything in the universe, you can arrange your living and working environments to help you reach your goals.

place a brass wind chime just inside the front door of your home or office. Choose a chime that resonates well with you, otherwise it will soon become an irritating source.

place books where you will see them as you enter the house. Leave room between the books and do not include books of a violent nature.

place your bed and your desk so that you can easily see the door. Avoid being in a direct line with the door.

eliminate as much clutter as possible. At the very least, remove all clutter from the room where you spend most of your time.

5. TO BRING MORE LOVE, COMPASSION, AND UNDERSTANDING TO YOUR RELATIONSHIP, place a statue of two dolphins in the far, right-hand corner of your bedroom.

place a mirror on the wall behind your stove, reflecting the burners. Keep it clean at all times.

place flowers in the bedroom, study, and kitchen.

move twenty-seven objects in your home, that have not been moved in the last year.

place yourself in the moonlight and breathe. Even if there is no moon, breathe… get the ch’i moving, and it will help you.

A Craving for Veggie Meat

Chicken-less Chicken Strips

Sadie’s hungry.

Sadie’s so hungry she could eat a cow.  But, she doesn’t want to kill any beasts so she goes for the next best thing – vegetarian mock meats.

Dreg doesn’t get it at all.  But he will still partake in the eating festivities because really, who can say no to chicken-less chicken strips?  They are so tasty.

5 Steps to Stimulate Your Liver

Are you feeling Toxic? The signs of toxicity in your body may surprise you: headaches, fatigue, sluggish thinking, weight gain, poor digestion and muscle pain all indicate the need for detoxification.

Come on – let’s stimulate that liver!

Life is too short to feel like crap all the time.

The 5 steps to help stimulate and support your liver to move accumulated toxins out with the bile are Diet, Herbs, Nutrients, Exercise and Hydrotherapy.

#1 ~ Detox Diet: Let’s keep this easy, simple and enjoyable. Personally, I prefer to skip the weird hot sauce honey lemon juice concoctions and just clean up my choices. I have nothing against lemons, Red Hot or honey, but I am not drinking that shit together. And, I still want to eat! No fasting for this natural me, I’ll take my food please.

So here’s the detox diet basics:

Eliminate white sugar and white flour products.
Limit wheat, dairy and meats containing hormones and antibiotics.
Eats lots of whole, fresh and organically grown fruits and vegetables.
Chew food properly and don’t eat on the run.
Drink 8 to 10 glasses of purified water every day.

#2 ~ Detox Herbs to Help the Body Deal with Toxins: Milk Thistle, Dandelion, Ginger and Garlic.

Eat ’em, juice ’em, put them in your tea. Just get ’em in ya.

#3 ~ Detox Nutrients to Support Cleansing: Vitamin C, Lipoic Acid, B-Complex vitamins, Probiotics (friendly bacteria) and Psyllium fiber.

Any other favorites of yours? Please share.

#4 ~ Exercise to Eliminate Toxins: Yes, you must get your booty moving. Raise your heart rate for 20 minutes at least 3 times a week to stimulate blood circulation and movement of the lymphatic fluid to help remove waste products.

Exercise can also help reduce overall fat reserves which are the primary storage sites for toxins.

Ugh – toxins in fat? Great. Now I have to try to sleep at night knowing my ass is not just pudgy, but poisonous too! Good to know, I guess. Maybe it will help motivate me to work out and sweat!

I’ll have to remember to stretch too because the optimal detox exercise is Yoga, which encourages the proper circulation of blood and lymph fluid, enhances digestion, reduces nervous tension, strengthens the endocrine system, lubricates the joints, reduces excess fat and improves concentration. Downward dog anyone?

#5 ~ Hydrotherapy and Skin Cleansing with Dry Skin Brushing, Saunas and Detox Baths: pampering is a fab way to encourage detoxing within our largest organ, our skin.

Dry skin brushing: Take a natural-bristle dry skin brush and brush your body with short, brisk strokes towards your heart. This feels so good. Enjoy dry skin brushing every day before your shower to increase your blood and lymphatic circulation.

Saunas: Help stimulate detoxification through the skin. By sweating, you will release a wide range of toxins stored in your fat and blood and excrete them through your skin.

Detox Baths: Warm baths with baking soda, Epsom salts or sea salt can help eliminate toxins such as heavy metals. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes and then gently scrub your skin with a herbal soap on a natural fiber.

Follow the above 5 steps to cleanse, nourish and rest your body from the inside out. By enhancing the function of your liver and lymphatic system, you are promoting your health, strengthening your body and revitalizing its ability to cleanse and heal itself.

Detox and have fun. It’s time for internal spring cleaning.
