O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, how can we make you last longer?
Our local Fir tree farm gave us these instructions with our new house friend. And I copy:
Saw off the bottom of the trunk 1-2 inches and use a drill to bore a narrow hole up through the middle of the trunk. Fill the how with cotton, tightly packed. Put the base in warm water as soon as possible. Warm water will melt the sap and allow the tree to drink more easily. It’s been recommended to add ones of these to the water as a preservative: a few tablespoons of glycerin, a few tablespoons of sugar, a few crushed aspirins, or use one of the ready made “tree preserve” mixtures.
Have you tried any of these before? Dreg was more than happy to drill a hole, wedge a few cotton balls up there and give the evergreen some warm sugary water to drink. Then after having his hands pricked a few hundred times trying to get the darn thing to stand up straight, he took a few aspirins himself.
Well, maybe he didn’t.. but I really liked how it worked itself into my sentence.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS YA’LL!!
